The Making of
The Unchosen - Mjolnir

The Making Of Mjolnir - I’m Not The Demon

When we decided to compose a song for the HALO saga, we wanted to write a track that you could “Throw grenades to” - The music had to be strong, paced and exciting, a song you would listen to as you charge into combat, with catchy riffs that you’d keep on your lips while your rifle blazes against your foe!

To balance the drive and aggression in the music we wanted the lyrics to relate directly to the saga, without being too obvious or overstated. We turned to the trilogy of HALO books to read deeper into the background of the hero of the tale - the Master Chief.

We read of a boy, John, ripped from his childhood life and plunged into the top secret ‘SPARTAN II’ program. The gruelling training, the genetic and cybernetic enhancements that make him far more than human. We read of the fall of ‘REACH’ and the loss of every comrade and friend he ever had, and realise the only companion to have been by his side through it all and beyond is the A.I. Cortana.

At this point the focus of the song became shared with her. If the Spartan hero is the fierce, destructive and unstoppable “Demon” of the covenant then she should surely be his saint and saviour, his guardian angel on his terrible mission to save humanity from the misguided holy war of The Covenant and the unstoppable hunger of The Flood.

We had music, we had lyrics, we worked to refine and create our tribute to HALO. We started performing ‘MJOLNIR’ in our live shows, and among our fans are many gamers who immediately grasped the connection and told of how much they enjoyed it.

Fans started posting lyrics, homemade video’s and Mp3’s of our song on the internet forums and interest grew. Encouraged by this interest from across the halo community, We recorded ‘MJOLNIR’ and decided to see how far we can spread it. We’ve included the ‘MOJO MEGAMIX’ which was initially a project to see how our music would perform as a backdrop to the gunfire, in-game carnage and dialogue, but soon grew to become an entertaining track in its own right.
